PGAM Webinar: How Sports Betting has Changed the Playing Field

The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) will present the second in its Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) webinar series on March 8. PGAM is dedicated to raising awareness about gambling problems and related issues, which have increased significantly in the last five years. The Council’s 2024 PGAM theme is “Betting on Change: Confronting the Surge in Problem Gambling.”

The hour-long webinar, entitled “How Sports Betting has Changed the Playing Field,” will be presented by Daniel Meara, the CCGNJ’s Prevention and Communications Specialist, on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.

Webinar description: A review of the nexus between gambling and sports, and New Jersey’s central role in the legalization of sport betting will be provided. Several examples of sports betting scandals will be discussed, as well as how team owners and leagues long enforced a strict barrier to distance athletes from gambling. Sports betting’s legalization in 2018 produced a sea change marked by tremendous growth in online sports wagering and a significant demographic shift as more youth and young adults – young men in particular – began gambling on sports apps.

Anyone wishing to attend the webinar must register using the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_k5uwlz-URSaDhjEFopizaw

One (1) CEU credit will be awarded at the end of the webinar to attendees who take the required, brief pre- and post-webinar quizzes.
