One hour webinar by Frank Lazzaro, Problem Gambling Prevention Specialist for the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, as he discusses the nature of problem and disordered gambling. The webinar will explore ways to watch for warning signs, understand moderation, and also ways to “Have the Conversation” with a loved one who may be struggling. Further, the webinar will aim to further the understanding and share strategies that gambling should always be done responsibly as a form of entertainment while avoiding the false belief that it’s a profitable long-term activity.


Parenting Techniques for Addiction Prevention – March 19, 2021

One hour webinar designed to help the participant understand tools and techniques that can be used in addiction prevention. Presented by Luis Del Orbe, Problem Gambling Prevention Specialist for the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, he will lead an exploratory discussion into family culture and practices that can aid in reducing the possible risk of developing addictive behaviors in youth .


Emerging Trends: The Growth of Gaming, Sports Betting and Internet Gambling – March 12, 2021

Consistently, there are more creative and fast paced forms of entertainment to help people escape, cope, or adjust to the stressors of life. Dan Trolaro, Assistant Executive Director for the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, explores the growth of gaming, sports betting, and internet gambling in New Jersey. Participants will learn the risk of progression from recreational to disordered gambling as well as the resources available to help both the problem gambler and loved ones.


Intergenerational Trauma Among Marginalized Communities – March 5, 2021

One hour webinar designed to provide information to help the participant understand how intergenerational trauma affects your relationship with your clients. Presented by Neva Pryor, Executive Director for the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, she will identify intergenerational trauma, discuss the impact, and help clinicians understand the validation they can embody to help their clients. Lastly, Neva will explore the role and effects that trauma can have on problem and disordered gambling.

Gambling and Mental Health Webinar – May 1, 2020

Abstract: Gambling is associated with mental health conditions sometimes as the cause and other times as the result of an untreated mental illness. As a result, there is an increased need to view gambling as a public health issue similar to substance use disorder. Common co-occurring disorders and mental health problems with gambling will be addressed along with barriers to treatment for the problem gambler.

Judge Cheryl Moss conducted a webinar on April 24, 2020 at 1:00 pm entitled “Nevada’s Gambling Treatment Diversion Court: A One Year Retrospective.” Judge Moss’ work in the field of gambling addiction has been inspired by her late mother, Dr. Rena Nora. Dr. Nora was a pioneer in the gambling addiction field in New Jersey from 1975-1995 until she relocated to Las Vegas and continued her work there.

Responsible Gambling Webinar – March 27, 2020

As more people turn to internet and mobile-device gambling during the current Covid-19 crisis, the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey is offering a FREE one-hour webinar on the basic principles of responsible gambling. This broadcast will give a brief overview of problem and disordered gambling, discuss the unique aspects of internet compared to brick and mortar casino gambling, and describe the principles of responsible gambling. We will review the warning signs of problem gambling and discuss where to go for help for gamblers and family members who feel they have a problem.
