James Carey is the Executive Director of the New Jersey Lottery, a position he has held since July 2018. He is an attorney and former prosecutor, with extensive experience involving regulated industries and fraud investigations. Previously, he served in several roles at the Attorney General’s Office and as the Director of the Authorities Unit and an Assistant Counsel for Governor Jon Corzine. As Director of Authorities, he oversaw the operations of more than 50 independent authorities, including the Casino Control Commission, the Horse Racing Commission, the Sports and Exposition Authority, and the Economic Development Authority. He is a graduate of Seton Hall University School of Law, where he was an editor of the Law Review, and the University of South Carolina.
