Keynote Speaker: Timothy W. Fong, M.D.
Professor of Psychiatry and Director of Addiction Psychiatry at UCLA, Timothy W. Fong, M.D. will be the keynote speaker for the 36th Annual Statewide Conference. His presentation titled, “Cannabis and Gambling Disorder: What’s Lying in the Weeds” will discuss how the psychoactive drug affects those battling a gambling disorder.
For many problem gamblers, substance abuse can accelerate their problems and lead them down a dangerous road. With cannabis becoming legalized in more states each year, this presentation is sure to shed an important light on the drug and how it impacts the lives of disordered gamblers across the country.
Participate in Interactive Workshops
After the keynote presentation, participants will attend one of two workshops. The first will cover the topic of sports gambling and how those who participate in this form of gambling, which includes off-track wagering winners and eSports gamblers, find their way to treatment.
The other morning workshop will discuss problem gambling and criminal activity. As so many Atlantic City residents who participate in compulsive gambling end up going to prison, this workshop could prove to be valuable to those looking to avoid or help others avoid the pitfalls of disordered gambling.
