In Remembrance of Jeff Beck

It is with great sadness that the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey announces the passing of Jeff Beck, a former employee, outstanding Clinician and the cornerstone of the gambling recovery community. He will be lovingly remembered by the staff of the Council and all those who came in contact with him. He was not only a trailblazer in his field but an all around good person who would do anything for you. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Karen, parents and family.

Jeff passed away on March 10, 2018, at his home in Maryland. At the time of his passing, Jeff was employed with The Maryland Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling, as its Clinical Director.

Jeff had previously been Assistant Director of Clinical Services, Research and Treatment at the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey. Jeff practiced law for 18 years before returning to school to get a Masters in Addiction Counseling and completing all course work and qualifying exams for a Ph.D. in Social Work. Jeff served on the Board of Directors of the National Council on Problem Gambling from 2009 through 2015, he had been chairman of the Problem Gambling Awareness Month campaign for the last 6 years and served on many NCPG Committees including Help-line, Education, Bylaws, Prevention, Recovery, SPRIG and Affiliates. Jeff was also President of the American Compulsive Gambling Counselor Certification Board.

Jeff’s funeral services will be held on March 14, 2018, 1:15 pm at the BERNHEIM-APTER-KREITZMAN SUBURBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ 07039
