2009 RECOVERY RALLY
The Division of Addiction Services (DAS) along with a number community partners including the New Jersey Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, Partnership for a Drug Free NJ, New Jersey’s Recovery Center at Eva’s Village, the Council on Compulsive Gambling in New Jersey, New Jersey Prevention Network, the Mentor Coalition for Recovery, as well as a number of NJ provider agencies are collaborating with A&E in support of their National Recovery Rally on September 12, 2009.
In 2008, A&E created “The Recovery Project”, a multi-year campaign designed to generate widespread awareness that addiction is a treatable disease and recovery is possible, erase the stigma of addiction and create a mass public event for people in recovery seeking a voice for their cause. Last year, with the help of numerous partners, A&E launched this important initiative with the first Recovery Rally in New York City where more than 5,000 people joined together to promote and celebrate recovery.
On Saturday, September 12, 2009, during National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month, A&E will host the second annual Recovery Rally in New York City where we estimate more than 10,000 people will gather on the Brooklyn Bridge to form a human bridge of recovery. This national media event will be attended by celebrities, politicians, non-profit leaders and people in recovery from all 50 states. Hosted by A&E Network, The Recovery Rally is produced in partnership with The National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence, Inc., Faces and Voices of Recovery, Partnership for a Drug-Free America, and the SAMHSA Planning Partners.
New Jersey participants who register by August 31, 2009 will receive free transportation to and from the Rally from a number of locations in NJ and a free shirt with the Recovery Rally logo. To register for free transportation and shirt, you must contact New Jersey’s Recovery Center at Eva’s Village by calling either 973-569-5162 or 973-569-5163 or by e-mailing james.tilghman@evasvillage.org.
Participants may also take public transportation to Foley Square in Manhattan where the program will commence at 9:30 am.
Attached is an A&E announcement of this event and an invitation containing information on how to become a Table Sponsor along with a Table Sponsor Registration Form.
